Messianic Worship

How does the Messianic form of religious faith differ from mainstream Christian belief? In a true sense, it is a return to a "whole Bible" basis for belief and worship. The New Testament, comprised of just 27 books, was never to be considered as a "replacement" for the Tenach, or Old Testament, nor are the New Testament writings the sole basis of our faith. The New Testament apostles refer to the Old Testament hundreds of times in explaining the basis of belief and doctrine. Nor has the Old Covenant been completely "abolished" in the New Covenant. It is instructive that the word "New" in Biblical Greek means a refreshed, revised, or "better" covenant. (Heb. 7:19, 22; 8:6; 12:24) Just as a butterfly does not represent an abolishing of his former self (the caterpiller), but a transformation, so too the New Covenant represents a transformed and improved form of the Old, firmly based and built upon the same original Biblical principles. (Heb. 7:12) We have more Messianic teaching available...

What is the Messianic view on Biblical Torah (Old Testament law)? We uphold New Testament teaching and "establish the law" (Rom. 3:31), believing that "not one jot or tittle" is removed for the believer (Matt. 5:17-19). However, under the New Covenant there is a transformation of law (Heb. 7:12). Yah's commands represent principles and precepts for us under the New Covenant, which has been called a "preceptive" view of Torah. Read more about God's law and the New Covenant...

Our Mission as a Messianic Congregation

Please enjoy some joyous and uplifting Hebrew Messianic music
while you learn more about our wonderful Messianic ministry on the page below. Yah bless!

Bet Yeshurun Messianic Assembly was founded in April, 2002, beginning with a small group of six members, which has now grown as others have learned of the wonderful worship and teaching we offer in pleasant surroundings and a convenient location. Our original name was "The Messianic Church Of God," which was changed a couple of years later to "Bet Yeshurun."

Our name expresses our aspiration both as individuals and as an assembly. "Yeshurun" is a poetic name of endearment for Israel, and means, "the beloved." (Deut. 33:5, 26) In addition, Professor Paul Sanders in "The Provenance of Deuteronomy 32" (Brill, 1996) also tells us, "It is an alternative name for Israel, according to most scholars a name of honor derived from the [Hebrew] root, 'to be upright'." (p.179) We seek by obedience to YHWH Elohim to be known as the upright or righteous; indeed, in thought, word, and deed to become known as "the House of the Righteous." (Proverbs 12:7; 15:6)

We are a Messianic congregation in Metro Detroit, Michigan dedicated to advancing the knowledge of the Hebrew origins of the faith popularly known as Christianity, and a greater love and obedience to Yahshuah, the Hebrew name of Jesus Christ. We are committed to the glory of the Almighty, expressing His love, and uplifting his Holy Righteous Moral Principles (Matthew 5: 17-19), as expressed in the Torah.

We are a Sacred Name assembly, honoring both our Messiah and our Father in Heaven by their Divine and chosen names. We teach and proclaim the principles of the Torah, or Divine Mosaic Law, both in obedience to Scripture and for our own personal moral benefit.

We are a Hebrew roots congregation, believing that everything in the New Testament was prefigured in the Old, and that much of the New Testament cannot be correctly understood without a knowledge of the Old Testament, especially its culture, laws, rituals, people, events, and prophecies. In a true sense, this is really only a return to Biblical roots and a "whole Bible" perspective.

We are a believing congregation. Above all, we place our faith, hope, and trust in Yahshua the Messiah, knowing that there is no salvation apart from Him: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12) AMEN!!!

Bet Yeshurun is neither a church nor a location. Bet Yeshurun is a Holy Nation. (1 Peter 2:9) We assemble every week to worship King Yahshuah in spirit and truth in the beauty of holiness. We combine biblical examination with audience participation. We have a wide range of praise music and biblically-based worship. The keeping of Yahshua and His Heavenly Father's (YHWH Elohim) weekly Sabbath, as well as their other Sabbaths (i.e. Feast Days or Moedim in the Hebrew) mark us as a set-apart (holy) assembly in Yahshuah and His Heavenly Father (Exodus 20:20; 31:13-17). We encourage and advance the fellowship of all the tribes of Israel, that Adonai's children may be gathered into one fold (Ezekiel 37:19), in unity of understanding (Psalm 133:1) and for the purpose of love (John 13:34).

All believers are welcome to worship with us! We encourage all who desire a deeper fellowship with Yah (1 John 1:6) and with one another (Hebrews 10:25) to visit any one of our weekly Bible studies and worship services, or our moedim (feast) celebrations. We are feast keepers, and celebrate all of the Biblical feasts and fasts. See the information on our contact pages. May Yah bless your continuing faith, holiness, and obedience to His Word! Please advise if we may be of service to you in any way, and our Messianic congregation would welcome your visit!

YHWH the author of Torah
